When you undergo examination or treatment, the medical facility is required to issue, at no charge, a receipt showing the details of medical costs.
Since April 2010, medical facilities and pharmacies required to send invoices (medical cost details) electronically are also required to issue details, free of charge, showing the grounds for the calculated costs, such as medical treatment and names of drugs, when issuing a receipt to patients, unless some justification exists for them not to do so.
Points are assigned for treatment by doctors and for prescribed drugs, and costs are calculated at the rate of 10 yen per point. While the costs on receipts show only rough subtotals for these items, the details specify aspects of treatment, including the kind of treatment, drugs used, and nature of examinations. This lets you confirm the details of your medical treatment and medical costs.
Checking the receipts and details of medical costs provides the following benefits: (1) Helps you grasp the nature of the treatment provided in greater detail; (2) raises awareness of medical care and medical costs; (3) helps provide cost awareness as you undergo treatment. |
