Gynecological examinations at other medical care institutions (Apply for the subsidy) (Insured persons)

How to apply for and get an examination

  • (1) Consent to the Health Insurance Society’s Privacy Policy and apply directly to your desired medical care institution. You do not need to notify the Health Insurance Society after this.
  • (2) Pay all examination costs to the medical care institution on the date of the examination. Be sure to obtain a receipt.

Applying for the subsidy

  • (1)After you have received the examination results, etc., submit the following documents to the Health Insurance Society (Health Management Department):
    • Subsidization Application (for individual applications)
    • Receipt (original) (clearly indicating a description of the charge such as “Gynecological examination charge,” the examinee’s name, and the date of the examination)
    • Copy of the notice of examination results (copy of the page showing the date of the examination, the examinee’s name, and the results)
  • (2) The Health Insurance Society will pay the subsidy after reviewing and making a decision on the application.
  • (3) The application must be submitted during the same fiscal year as the examination.
  • * The subsidy may be paid through bank transfer. If you request payment by bank transfer, payment may be made only to an account in the name of the insured person.
  • * If you have multiple receipts because you were examined for breast cancer and cervical cancer at different medical care institutions or on different dates, apply at the same time for all receipts.
・Subsidy applications for gynecological examinations are accepted only once during the same fiscal year.
・You may also choose to apply for just breast cancer or cervical cancer screening, instead of both screenings.
  • * Note that items covered by health insurance (with 30% or 20% copayment) and costs remaining after the difference settlement at a contracted medical care institution are not eligible for the subsidy.

Other information

Some municipalities provide (gynecological) cancer screening roughly once every two years. Check with your municipality and take advantage of such screening if available.

* Copayments incurred for such screening also are eligible for the subsidy.
