Examination at other medical care institutions

How to apply for and get an examination

  • (1) Choose your desired medical care institution, consent to the Health Insurance Society’s policies on the Handling of Personal Information, and apply to the institution directly. You do not need to notify the Health Insurance Society after this.
  • (2) Pay all examination costs to the medical care institution on the date of the examination. Be sure to obtain a receipt.

Applying for the subsidy

  • (1)After you have received the examination results, etc., submit the following documents to the Health Insurance Society (Health Management Department):
    • Subsidization Application (for individual applications)
    • Receipt (original) (clearly indicating a description of the charge such as “Stomach examination charge,” the examinee’s name, and the date of the examination)
    • Copy of the notice of examination results (copy of the page showing the date of the examination, the examinee’s name, and the results)
  • (2)The Health Insurance Society will pay the subsidy after reviewing and making a decision on the application.
  • (3)Note that the application must be submitted by the end of the fiscal year in which the examination was administered.
    • * The subsidy may be paid through bank transfer. If you request payment by bank transfer, payment may be made only to an account in the name of the insured person.
    • * Note that costs treated as those of insured medical consultations and treatment and costs remaining after payment of the difference in amounts at a contracted medical care institution are not eligible for subsidy reimbursement.
