Information on influenza vaccinations

Since December 2, 2024, health insurance eligibility is verified using one of the following:

  • ①Health insurance card
  • ②Eligibility Verification Certificate
  • ③Eligibility information screen on Mynaportal
  • ④Myna health insurance card and Notice of Eligibility Information
  • ⑤Online verification of eligibility using the Individual Number Card (only at facilities that have adopted the relevant system)

Influenza vaccinations

Influenza vaccinations are available through the following:

  • * About Toshinkyo
    Toshinkyo, officially the Tokyo General Cooperative Health Facilities Promotion Association, is a corporation established to promote and raise awareness of the health facility activities operated by general health insurance societies located in Tokyo, jointly implement efficient health facility activities by health insurance societies, and share activities among health insurance societies.

1.Vaccination at medical care institution contracted to Toshinkyo (no subsidy application to the Health Insurance Society required)

This involves receiving a vaccination at a medical care institution providing vaccinations under contract to Toshinkyo. Toshinkyo has concluded contracts with about 3,300 medical care institutions across Japan to provide influenza vaccinations.

Methods

Choose one of the following:

Periods for vaccination, etc.

  • ◆ Vaccination at medical care institution
    Vaccination period: October 1 through March 31 of the following year
  • ◆ Group vaccination
    Applications accepted: September 1–October 31
    Vaccination period: Mid-November–mid-December

  • * Must be a member of the Health Insurance Society on the date of vaccination.
  • * Group vaccinations are not available for children of middle-school age or younger.
  • * Ages of vaccination eligibility vary by contracted medical care institution.

Subsidy amount

Up to 2,000 yen/vaccination for one vaccination per person

  • * Available for up to two vaccinations for children under 13 years of age

2.Vaccination at an ordinary medical care institution (not contracted to Toshinkyo) (subsidy application to the Health Insurance Society required)

Eligible persons

Insured persons and dependents who are members of the Health Insurance Society (no age restrictions)

Vaccination locations

Ordinary medical care institutions other than those shown on the list of vaccinating medical care institutions on the Toshinkyo website

  • * The subsidy does not cover the costs of vaccinations received at the examination center on the second floor of Kenpokaikan or the Health Insurance Society clinic and the copayment paid after settlement of differences in amounts when using a Toshinkyo contracted medical care institution.
    Note that only FluMist (intranasal live attenuated influenza vaccine) nasal sprays that have obtained pharmaceutical approval from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare are eligible for the subsidy. When applying, attach a copy of the serial number confirmation sticker (a small sticker attached to a maternal and child health handbook, receipt, vaccination certificate, etc.).
    For more information about the FluMist nasal spray to be used, contact the medical care institution directly.

Subsidy amount

Up to 2,000 yen/vaccination for one vaccination per person (up to the actual amount if less than 2,000 yen)

  • * Up to two vaccinations available for children under 13 years of age

Voluntarily and Continuously Insured Persons

Voluntarily and Continuously Insured Persons should read the Health Checkup Information pamphlet.

  • * Information on influenza vaccinations at the Health Insurance Society examination center will be provided separately. It will also be published in the Society bulletin, Kenpo News.

3.Vaccination at the examination center on the second floor of Kenpokaikan (no subsidy application to the Health Insurance Society required)

Eligible persons

Insured persons and dependents who are members of the Health Insurance Society
(not including those under 16 years of age on the date of vaccination)

Vaccination location

Examination center on the second floor of Kenpokaikan
(3-1-2 Nihonbashi Kayabacho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo)

Vaccination periods (planned)

First period: Five days during the third week of October each year (planned)
Second period: Five days during the third week of November each year (planned)

  • * Vaccine quantities are limited. Note that the vaccination period may end early if vaccines run out.

Costs

1,000 yen in cash (one time only)
Pay on the day of vaccination.

  • * This 1,000 yen is not eligible for the reimbursement of the vaccination subsidy.
  • * Other detailed information will be provided through separate notifications sent to establishments, published in Kenpo News, and posted under “News & Topics” on the Health Insurance Society website.
