When you have an automobile accident

If you have an automobile accident and suffer an injury, you can receive treatment using your health insurance. If you have an accident, contact the Health Insurance Society as soon as possible.
Note that if you receive treatment using your health insurance, your right as a victim to claim compensation to cover your medical treatment is transferred to the Health Insurance Society. If the assailant has paid for your treatment, the amount you received will be deducted from your health insurance benefit.

Approach any out-of-court settlements with caution!

Please discuss the matter with the Health Insurance Society before settling out of court in the event you received medical treatment covered by health insurance. Please avoid settling the matter with the assailant out of court without first consulting the Health Insurance Society.

If you have an automobile accident and suffer an injury, the Health Insurance Society will request payment at a later date from the assailant of an amount equivalent to your medical care costs. For this reason, if you use health insurance when receiving treatment for an injury sustained in an automobile accident, submit a "Notification of Injury or Sickness due to a Third-party Act" to the Health Insurance Society as soon as possible.

Procedural
Documents:

1.

"Notification of Injury or Sickness due to a Third-party Act"

2.

"Certificate of the Automobile Accident," etc.

*Please submit as soon as possible.

Actions following an automobile accident

1. Remain calm

People in a state of shock immediately after automobile accidents often lose their calm, which causes impairing judgment. Please remain as calm as possible.

2. Confirm the identity of the assailant

You must make note of the other party's vehicle plate number, driver's license, and automobile inspection certificate, etc.

3. Contact the police

You must report all automobile accidents to the police, however slight the accident may appear.

4. Approach any out-of-court settlements with caution

You must exercise caution in the event you settle damages for injuries sustained in an automobile accident out of court, as after-effects may develop. You must inform your Health Insurance Society prior to an out-of-court settlement in the event you want to receive medical
treatment covered by health insurance.
