Our Health Insurance Society offers loans to cover childbirth expenses

In accordance with an amendment to applicable laws effective at the end of the year 2000, since April 2001 the Tokyo General Health Insurance Society Promotion Association has handled, as part of its operations and under the supervision of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, “loan system for childbirth expenses.”
Since the Health Insurance Society is a member of this association, this system is available for use by any insured persons or their dependents planning to give birth. Please feel free to apply to take advantage of this system.

1.Borrower requirements

(1)

The borrower must be planning to give birth within one month, or

(2)

The borrower must need the funds to make a lump-sum payment after being pregnant for at least four months

2.Application method

Fill out the required information in the spaces for completion by the insured person on the “Application for Childbirth Loan” (make two copies), and submit your application to the Health Insurance Society.

3.Documents to attach, and where to apply

(1)

When planning to give birth within one month of application:

Submit a copy of your maternity health record books or another document certifying that your planned delivery date is no more than one month following application.

(2)

When applying after being pregnant for at least four months:

In addition to the document described under “(1)” above, attach a bill or receipt from your medical institution showing a breakdown of the costs required for childbirth, and submit these to the First or Second Operation Section of the Health Insurance Society’s Operations Division.

4.Remittance of loan funds

The loan funds will be remitted to your designated bank account. (No fees are required.)

5.Repayment and settlement of loan funds

When the applicant or his or her dependent has given birth, upon submittal of a bill for childbirth and childcare lump-sum grant the amount borrowed will be repaid by the Health Insurance Society to the Tokyo General Health Insurance Society Promotion Association directly, using funds from the childbirth and childcare lump-sum grant paid by the Health Insurance Society to the insured person.
Approximately 10% of the amount of childbirth and childcare lump-sum grant remaining after repayment of the loan will be paid by the Health Insurance Society together with the amount of 100,000 yen paid as additional benefits for childbirth (not including childbirth taking place within six months after losing eligibility).
