Under Japanese civil law, the statute of limitations on general
debts is ten years. However, the prescription period for health
insurance is relatively short at two years. For example, you
will lose your right to Childbirth and Childcare Lump-sum Grant
if you fail to request this benefit for a period of two years.
Period of prescription is only of concern with regard to cash benefits.
Benefits in kind are not limited by any period of prescription.
